Due Diligence

The requirements to become Monaco's residents are not as strict as commonly thought. To become a resident, an applicant must be at least 16, have a clean police record for the preceding five years, and demonstrate the means to afford the lifestyle including the rent or purchase of real estate, the cost of which is comparable to large capital cities. 

Accommodation

You must have a home in Monaco either through purchasing a property, renting a home or being accommodated by family member.

Financial Stability

Demonstrate sufficient financial means to support yourself. This typically involves: 

- Depositing a minimum of EUR 500,000 in a Monaco bank. 

- Having a sufficient and regular income from employment, self-employment, passive (rental) income or retirement. 

- Receiving financial support from a family member or close relative residing in Monaco.  

Processing time  

6 - 7 months (EU citizen) or 8 - 9 months (citizens of other countries)

Residency Process

1) A long stay visa - type D, to be issued 

2) After this, a temporary resident permit to be applied - carte temporaire  for a total period of three years and to be renewed every year.  3) A carte ordinaire is issued for the next period of three years.

4) After three consecutive renewals of carte ordinaire, applicants might apply for carte privilègewhich is valid for a renewable period of 10 years. 

Time to citizenship

At least 10 years. Renouncing of any other sovereign nationality among others are required.
