The EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES), initially set for November, faces indefinite delays, partly due to technical issues and concerns from major hubs like Germany, France, and the Netherlands. The phased rollout proposal requires legal amendments, as current regulations don’t allow it.

The travel industry remains frustrated, with experts criticizing the lack of clarity. Despite this, some welcome the delay, saying it provides time to resolve issues and test the system. Tim Wilson, a criminal justice expert, called the delay a "sensible decision," giving stakeholders time to address challenges without wasting past investments.

The Port of Dover, which recently began preparing biometric facilities, warns of potential delays in freight and passenger travel. Meanwhile, EU leaders are expected to meet soon to discuss the EES, although its launch date remains uncertain. The system, intended to enhance Schengen border security, will likely proceed eventually, albeit with adjustments and further delays.
